RetainIQ uses a mouseleave event listener on the document viewport combined with a Y-coordinate threshold check. When the cursor Y position drops below a defined pixel value near the top edge, RetainIQ confirms leaving intent and fires the popup. On mobile, where cursor movement doesn't exist, RetainIQ uses alternative signals back button detection, visibility API changes, and configurable time-on-page rules.
